Trauma Recovery: Brainspotting & EMDR

Extreme feelings or numbness is a daily experience.

Stress and past experiences continue to haunt your life.

It seems like the memories and thoughts are playing in your head as a broken record.

You are motivated to change and are doing everything possible to keep functioning, but managing life is becoming difficult.

Very often, a wave of emotions and body sensations show up unannounced, causing you to lose track of time or have disproportional emotional responses to the people around you.

Hopelessness, guilt, and shameful thoughts cloud your judgments, making you sometimes not recognize yourself.

Early childhood events, intrusive memories, sudden romantic relationship break up, a car accident, self-harm, addictive behaviors, and feelings of disconnection from life and people… just to name a few, influence you to seek help.

You made a decision that you want to live a better life.

I have helped hundreds of people overcome these challenges. Brainspotting and EMDR can lead you to free yourself from these behavioral and emotional blockages.

The body remembers.

Brainspotting and EMDR are approaches developed by psychologists David Grand and Francine Shapiro to help individuals recover from traumatic experiences.

Every human body has an innate instinctive survival response to protect us from stress and danger.

You probably have experienced stressful or emotional-charging events when you feel more aggressive, fearful, paralyzed, crying for help, or numb. These are our body’s attempts to keep us alive in the face of danger.

All it means is that your nervous system hasn't recover from these experiences. You might be constantly living in survival mode, dominated by your emotions and body sensations. That’s why you have tried to change but have been experiencing the same emotions and triggers.

Restoring the balance…

Brainspotting and EMDR utilize the eye position and movement to help the body to release trauma and guide it back to balance. Both science-based strategies have been safe and effective practices in helping people worldwide.

Time does not cure everything, as many people believe.

Together, I will safely guide you using these tools so you can fully integrate past traumatized experiences and live the life you want by reconnecting with yourself and others.

Brainspotting and EMDR will use your eye movement or gaze fixation to locate where the trauma is stored in your brain and body.

Brainspotting will use the gaze fixation at a spot guided by your emotions and body sensations to process them until they are not present anymore. EMDR will use bilateral eye movements to free you from the stuck images and thoughts. I will safely introduce these techniques, so the process is never overwhelming.

These approaches are known by having access to deeper parts of your brain so the healing can be faster and long-lasting.

The process is divided into three phases:

Phase 1- taking a brief history, establishing goals, grounding, resourcing, and coping tools.

Phase 2- trauma/emotional liberation via Brainspotting or EMDR.

Phase 3- integration of the sessions, next goals, or steps in your inner work process.

As we go through these phases, your body naturally reestablishes balance, and your mind regains clarity and presence.
